Visual Memory (DLR MEK)

Pair it, then recall it

DLR Visual Memory (MEK): four elements are shown down the left of the screen, each paired with a two-digit number. You get 5 seconds to memorise the pairings. One element is then shown on its own with a '?' and you key its number back in on the keypad within 10 seconds. Fresh sets keep coming for the full 10 minutes, so answering faster earns you more of them.

What to expect

  • Four element/number pairs, held on screen for 5 seconds.
  • Elements mixed between coloured circles and two-letter codes.
  • A pie timer top-right for both the study and the recall window.
  • A numeric keypad that only unlocks once the pairs are removed.
  • 10 seconds to key the number and press OK.

What it measures

  • Paired-associate memory
  • Rapid encoding
  • Recall accuracy under time pressure

Instructions

  1. 1Memorise all four pairs — you don't find out which one is asked until they have gone.
  2. 2Key the two-digit number and press OK, or Enter on your keyboard.
  3. 3Running out of time counts the same as a wrong answer.
  4. 4Nothing carries between questions; each set is freshly generated, and sets keep coming until the 10 minutes are up.

Tips

  • Attack the coloured circles first — they encode faster than letter codes, leaving more of the 5 seconds for the harder pairs.
  • Chain the four into one short story or number run rather than rehearsing them as four separate facts.
  • Two elements can share the same number, so never rule one out because its number is 'taken'.
