Slalom (COMPASS)

Thread the aircraft through the gates

COMPASS Slalom: a pursuit tracking task. Your aircraft holds station while a winding corridor of gate dots scrolls toward it — steer Left/Right to keep the plane between the two dotted walls. As you progress the whole view banks and rolls, so the corridor tilts and you must keep reorienting to steer the right way. Tests pursuit tracking, hand-to-eye coordination and spatial orientation.

What to expect

  • A winding corridor of dotted gates scrolling toward you.
  • Left/Right steering to stay between the walls.
  • The whole view banks and rolls as you go.
  • Your plane turns red whenever it leaves the gates.

What it measures

  • Pursuit tracking
  • Hand-to-eye coordination
  • Spatial orientation under a rolling view

Instructions

  1. 1Keep the plane between the two dotted walls.
  2. 2Steer with the Left/Right arrow keys or the on-screen pads.
  3. 3When the view rolls, judge the corridor's new angle before you steer.
  4. 4Small early corrections beat large late ones.

Tips

  • Watch the gap ahead, not the plane, and pre-empt each bend.
  • When it's tilted, trust the corridor's angle over your gut sense of 'left'.
