Copy the clearance

DLR Aviation English (ENS): listen to ATC transmissions in a variety of accents, then answer a question on each — callsign, frequency, QNH, runway, level, heading or squawk. The same listening task as the COMPASS module.

This test is part of Pro.

What to expect

  • Spoken ATC transmissions, each in a different voice and accent.
  • One multiple-choice question after each message.
  • Answer options that differ by a single digit.
  • Messages with a 'break' carrying two aircraft's clearances.

What it measures

  • Listening comprehension
  • Aviation English & R/T phraseology
  • Holding detail from spoken messages

Instructions

  1. 1Wear headphones in a quiet room — each message plays once (one replay allowed).
  2. 2Note the callsign first, then the numbers that follow it.
  3. 3On a 'break' message, track which clearance belongs to which aircraft.

Tips

  • Learn the phonetic alphabet and number pronunciation cold.
  • Frequencies, QNH and squawk codes are where marks are lost.
