What to expect

  • An attitude indicator and a heading dial to read.
  • Four aircraft seen from behind — pick the matching one.
  • As many items as you can in the time.

What it measures

  • Reading flight instruments together
  • Interpreting attitude and heading
  • Quick, accurate scanning

Instructions

  1. 1Read the attitude indicator: climb, level or dive, and which way it's banking.
  2. 2Read the heading dial for the direction of flight.
  3. 3Pick the aircraft (from behind) in that attitude and heading — the horizon moves opposite to the aircraft.

Tips

  • Bank on the attitude indicator reads mirrored on an aircraft seen from behind.
  • One contradicting instrument rules an option out.
